Stephan and Gramps found this duck and her eggs while walking down the main street in town with their ice cream cones. Stephan called the local humane society because he was worried about the babies & the organization has an excellent wildlife rescue program. Gramps said the duck was in a planter on restauarant property, not a city planter, so hopefully the restaurant staff are keeping an eye on her. We have had more ducks in our yard this year than last & I wonder if there are any nests around our "pond" (aka giant rain puddle that has not yet dried up.) We have spotted lots of babies in our area...a mother duck & her babies crossing a busy county highway & a mother goose and her babies crossing the hospital parking lot that we pass on the way home. It's amazing how they navigate around all of the people & cars. We have also spotted quite a few wild turkeys lately, but haven't spied any babies.5/22/2009
